Open Source PaaS Leader Launches Version 2.0 of Award-Winning Platform

June 25, 2014

SANTA BARBARA, CA--(Marketwired - Jun 25, 2014) - AppScale Systems, Inc., the leader in open source rapid development and deployment for scalable web and mobile applications, today announced the 2.0 release of its flagship product the AppScale application platform. AppScale 2.0 represents a significant step for open source platform-as-a-service (PaaS), providing companies freedom and efficiency when developing and deploying their applications.

AppScale develops an open source platform modeled on the brilliantly simple and globally successful Google App Engine (GAE) API, which accelerates development and time to market. Applications developed with AppScale may be deployed anywhere, from public clouds such as AWS, GCE, SoftLayer, and Azure to private clouds such as OpenStack, Eucalyptus and bare metal.

AppScale 2.0 contains three major improvements. First, the DataStore implementation has been completely revamped to include coverage for distinct queries, list properties for composite index and ZigZag merge join optimization. Second, the entire build was simplified to make AppScale faster in any configuration. Third, AppScale 2.0 includes support for OpenStack, including autoscaling. These collective changes offer significant usability and performance improvements.

"AppScale 2.0 marks a major milestone in our continued efforts to build the best open-source application platform on the market today," said Woody Rollins, CEO at AppScale. "We're extremely excited about the new features in 2.0 that will make running your application on AppScale easier and faster than ever before."

"We depend on AppScale to keep our enterprise product running smoothly in any cloud, whether that be AWS, SoftLayer or behind the firewall," says Geert Audenaert, Founder and CEO of RogerThat. "With the new features of AppScale 2.0, our enterprise application delivers an even higher ROI for our customers."
